The Air India Boeing 787-8 crashed after taking off from Ahmedabad on service to London Gatwick.
According to the flight tracking site, the aircraft had a registered VT-ANB and the accident occurred early in the afternoon.
Air India has confirmed that Flight AI171 was involved in the incident, but has not yet provided details.
“Flight AI171, which operates Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in today's incident on June 12, 2025,” the airline says.
Media reports from India suggest that 242 people were on an aircraft consisting of 230 passengers and a 12 crew member, but Air India has not yet confirmed this figure.

The VT-ANB is powered by two GE Aerospace Genx engines. It was released in January 2014.
