Cairo, Egypt, June 30, 2025 (Globe Newswire) – Air Cairo, one of Egypt's leading airlines, is strategically partnering with Medaire, a global leader in aviation medical and security support, to increase medical capacity and operational efficiency during flights. The partnership is in line with the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation vision to modernize safety and health care standards across the air transport sector and increase health care standards.
The contract was officially signed by Captain Ahmed Shanan, Chairman and CEO of Air Cairo, and Lily Rajan, Asia's Director of Medea in the Middle East, Africa, India and Asia, Captain Amruel Sharkawi, Chairman of Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority. The collaboration highlights Air Chiro's commitment to adopting global best practices for aviation health and safety, ensuring the highest standards of passenger care.
Under this strategic partnership, Air Cairo will implement Medaire's industry-leading Medlink service, providing flight crews with 24/7 real-time access to emergency physicians specializing in aviation medicine. Air Cairo Crews also benefit from offline access to Medaire's industry-first in-flight app, designed to support medical decisions without connections. These advanced medical services will be deployed throughout the fleet on Air Cairo's Airbus A320-200, A320neo, E190 and ATR 72-600 aircraft, supporting major regional routes to the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Captain Ahmed Shanan, chairman and CEO of Air Cairo, commented: “This partnership is the basis of Air Chiro's integrated strategy to increase aviation safety, reduce operational disruptions, and provide full control of crew safety and comfort.
Air Cairo has specifically chosen Medaire because of its extensive experience managing complex in-flight medical scenarios and its robust passenger suitability assessment capabilities. By leveraging Medea's global infrastructure and medical expertise, Air Cairo aims to proactively manage pre-flight medical cases, reduce unnecessary delays, and ensure compliance with evolving international safety standards.
“We are pleased to announce that we are a great place to go,” said Lily Rajan, director of Medea's Middle East, Africa, India and Asia. “We are proud to partner with Air Cairo. As a client of Africa's first airline, this collaboration will set a new benchmark for the safety of in-flight healthcare in the region. The market of the future.”
The new medical services will be open to all flights in Cairo starting mid-July 2025. Medea's comprehensive suite of solutions minimizes risk of detours, increases crew confidence during medical incidents, strengthens pre-flight medical screening capabilities, and ultimately improves operational efficiency and passenger experience.
