Turkish Airlines chooses an open source AI platform to support the implementation of intelligent workloads focused on improving dynamic pricing, preventing fraud and reducing fuel consumption

BOSTON – Red Hat Summit, May 21, 2025 – (Business Wire) – Red Hat, one of the world's leading providers of open source solutions, today announced that Turkish Airlines (IST: Thyao), Turkiye's flagship carrier airline, has chosen Red Hat to help transform into an organization of data and AI. Turkish Airlines can now use Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat OpenShift to create new development environments in minutes rather than hours, allowing data scientists to leverage data from across their organizations, double the speed of deployment time.

The Turkish airline, which is a carrier that flies to more countries than any other country, operates an extensive global network of scheduled flights to 353 destinations in Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa and the United States. With approximately 90,000 employees, the airline serves a diverse range of customers, including both the business-to-business (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) segments.

Scalability via open source AI platform

Turkish airlines aimed to improve operational efficiency across all processes and services, optimize technical maintenance, increase employee productivity, and increase employee satisfaction with the help of AI. To support this goal, Turkish airlines chose Red Hat because of the need for widespread scalability and open source nature. Open source technology has become key to Turkish Airlines to avoid vendor lock-in as demand for both forecast AI (GEN AI) increases, helping to achieve the long-term goal of moving to a hybrid cloud environment.

In collaboration with Red Hat Consulting, Turkish Airlines was able to implement the Red Hat OpenShift AI environment and integrate with existing systems and requirements, including creating custom development environments, automatic deployment of AI models and pipelines, custom monitoring and alerting. When updating or creating new applications, the infrastructure team used Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the world's leading enterprise Linux platform, to add the benefits of integration.

Thanks to Red Hat OpenShift AI's provisioning and automation capabilities, project scaling is done automatically, allowing operations teams to freely monitor their value-added projects, and embedded monitoring can save even more time by automating remediations that make teams more independent while reducing maintenance costs. Blockers around resource real locations can now be avoided, allowing multiple data scientists to use the same data set equally. A new, custom-made environment for engineers running with open shifts in red hats can be built in minutes in contrast to time, opening up teams and quickly innovating and exploring new technologies.

    Everyday ai has become real

Enabling teams to use AI in their daily operations has been a major focus for Turkish airlines. This is because they wanted to create a new generation of citizen data scientists who could develop their own AI projects. With the new platform, both business and data teams can be accessed and developed more easily, and the AI project in Turkish technology aims to increase revenue while reducing operational costs. As part of this deployment, Red Hat OpenShift AI increases productivity, processes more efficiently and doubles deployment speeds during the deployment phase.

Turkish Airlines, which chooses Red Hat as its open source AI platform, has been able to improve its services in the following ways:

Improved accuracy of dynamic pricing models for airline ticket sales

Enhanced model for fraud prevention – whether for customer card payments, via its loyalty program, Miles & Smiles – Turkish Airlines can screen with higher accuracy

Built on top of Red Hat OpenShift AI and deployed on the leading open source language model (LLMS), the customer service chatbot has been deployed to increase both customer satisfaction and employee productivity

Considering detailed allocation optimization, flight routes, aircraft details and fuel consumption, you can use the model to ensure that the correct aircraft is chosen for all routes, leading to savings in fuel consumption periods

Added insights into smoother service operations, including improved ground plan prediction performance, block time prediction, and time performance (OTP) prediction. In this case, operations teams can act proactively when there are bad predictions to minimize delays.

Turkish Airlines' AI initiative currently spans over 60 live models, with at least 40 developing. Currently, more than 200 Turkish airline employees are working on AI-based development, with the number being set to grow. Red Hat has been able to break the barriers between teams by building trust among Turkish Airlines staff and contributing to its increased use, using Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat OpenShift to open new lines of communication between teams. A more open approach to experimenting with and innovating new technologies has become apparent across organizations that are ready to support future ambitions and growth.

Red Hat's Vision: Any Model, Any Accelerator, Cloud.

The future of AI must be defined by infinite opportunities not constrained by infrastructure silos. Red Hat sees the horizon where organizations can deploy any model, any accelerator, or any model across the cloud, providing a more exceptional, more consistent user experience without exorbitant costs. Businesses need a universal reasoning platform to unlock the true potential of Gen AI Investments. This is the standard for more seamless, high-performance AI innovation, both today and in the coming years.
