This stunning African island is recognized as one of the best destinations in the world, according to Tripadvisor's Traveler's Choice Awards. The monkey island of Cape Verde is off the coast of West Africa, with several beautiful white sandy beaches and soothing turquoise waters.
The island is also known to have what is called therapeutic salt water in the craters of extinct volcanic strata – just one example of the quiet atmosphere that comes with visiting a peaceful island. Not only does it boast a mild escape feature, but the entire island is priced relatively inexpensive, with pints only £2.88 and a three-course meal for two sets £34.05.
TripAdvisor placed the island at its “best of best” African destinations, noting its natural beauty and marine wildlife.
The travel agency said: “The monkey Cape Werden Island is all beaches, babies. The white sand stretches along the glassy turquoise waters.
“Snorkelers and divers can find plenty of tropical fish, turtles and dolphins. On dry land, children (and adults!) marvel at the Terrabo Mirage, an optical fantasy that reminds you of a peaceful lake in the middle of a large flat plain.”
According to Cape Verde's tourism website, the town of Santa Maria offers “the best conditions for classic beach holidays.” The small town has beaches that extend to 7 km and are up to 200 meters wide.
One person who visited in March said, “Cape Verdesar feels like a paradise. This beach is so beautiful, relaxing and breathtaking. I love Cape Verde.”
Another visitor from the UK said, “It's a lovely beach with soft sand and some big waves. The lifeguard was there for a few hours during the day. Always check the flag system. This works very well. The waves were amazing depending on the time of year. I highly recommend going for a walk or sunbathing.”
British holiday makers can fly directly from London Gatwick and Manchester airports to the island's Apilport Amilka Cabral International.
