(Africa Development Bank) – The African Development Bank and Visas have formalized cooperation in transforming the African digital ecosystem. The partnership aims to make mobile devices, computers and payment devices more affordable, expand access to digital identity solutions, and enhance cybersecurity on the continent.
Formed at the recent annual meeting of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, the collaboration will support the creation of mechanisms that provide affordable devices, fill the gap between internet use and connectivity, and bring digital solutions closer to citizens.
The collaboration will also focus on promoting broader digital inclusion by expanding access to secure and scalable digital identity solutions, promoting the adoption of digital payments technologies, and enhancing cybersecurity across the financial ecosystem.
“We are pleased to partner with the African Development Bank to promote digital transformation in Africa,” said Ismahill Diaby, vice president and head of West Africa and vice president of Visa's French and Portuguese-speaking hub. “This collaboration is consistent with our mission to enable individuals, businesses and economies to thrive by connecting digitally. Through these initiatives, we will continue our efforts to bridge digital disparities, strengthen financial inclusion and build a safe digital ecosystem in all Africa.”
By combining the bank's extensive local knowledge with Visa's global expertise in cybersecurity and digital payments, this collaboration will improve access to digital financial services, strengthen the cybersecurity framework, and promote financial inclusion for millions of people across the continent.
“The digital future in Africa relies on comprehensive access to affordable devices and secure digital identities,” said Solomon Quaynor, vice president of private sector, infrastructure and industrialization at the African Development Bank Group. “By equipping our citizens with the tools and skills they need, we open opportunities for entrepreneurship, education and financial inclusion to millions of people across the continent.”
