Accommodation Tips to Showcase the Finish Line – Tourism News Africa

South Africa's love of sport runs deep from packed rugby stadiums to the country's unwavering support for cricket, soccer and endurance events. Among our many iconic sports traditions are two legendary races that test the limits of human endurance. Two marine marathons in April and the comrade marathon in June. These events attract thousands of local and international runners (and audiences) each year. Everyone wants to push the boundaries while taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery the country has to offer. But it's not just training schedules, race day strategies and logistics as runners prepare for these tough challenges. It's about the overall experience.

For example, accommodation. “The right accommodation can make an incredible difference on race days,” says Shaun Lamont, managing director of First Group Hotels and Resorts. And since both races match school holidays, you can expand your trip to more than just a race weekend,” he adds. A memorable holiday follows the finish line. There, everyone can enjoy the journey together and create lasting, magical memories. ”

Lamont offers some tips on how to choose and protect the best place to stay on a race weekend.

    1. Think beyond just a bed. B&Bs may be great for a quick and unadorable stay, but the resort, for example, offers amenities that may enhance your lace experience. Of course, comfortable beds are essential, but resorts such as the first group properties go further. It usually has a gym and spa (for post-race recovery), many of which are located near the beaches of KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape, where you will smoke the sun. A variety of family-friendly activities, bars and restaurants brings you lots to entertain everyone. It's not just where you sleep. It's about creating a complete vacation where you can relax and recharge.

    2. Location, location, location: When choosing your accommodation, we will consider traffic, road closures and accessibility. For Two Oceans Marathon, take a look at the First Group Riviera Suite in Cape Town for easy access to lace and breathtaking ocean views. If you are running a comrade marathon, a Umlanga breaker in Balito or a La Montagne breaker is a great option for post-race relaxation, but the all suites at Durban Palace offer resort-style comfort and convenience both beach and city in close proximity to the start/finish line.

    3. Self-equipment options: If you follow a specific nutrition plan, look for accommodations that offer the flexibility to prepare your own meals. It also offers the convenience of an on-site restaurant to inhale and relax in the race.

    4. Group Stay: If you are traveling with a support crew or running team, choose the accommodation that suits your group. Apartments and resorts with self-meter options provide more flexibility and cost-effectiveness while creating a sense of friendship and mutual encouragement.

    5. Special Race Weekend Package: Not to mention booking early, considering the thousands of runners who need accommodation. Booking early means that many people book a year in advance, but there is a greater chance that they will have the accommodation they want. Often, hotels, resorts and guesthouses in the area offer exclusive deals during race weekends. These packages usually include post-race recovery services such as early check-in, special runner rates, pre-race meals, and massages and spa access. Therefore, please be sure to contact us when booking for special race weekend packages and runner-friendly services.

“Whether you're aiming for your personal best or supporting friends and family, accommodation can make all the difference. Set the tone of a fun race weekend from providing post-race comfort and relaxation.” Your race isn't just about how quickly you cross the finish line. It's about the whole journey and the memories you made along the way,” Lamont concludes.
