Like so many horror stories, the story of the sunken cities of England began on a dark, stormy night. Hall Sand in Devon, a bustling town where hundreds of people lived and worked for centuries, was struck by a monumental storm, terrified residents.

It wasn't just wind and rain – this coastal town suffered from loss of natural defenses, as the then British government had taken in a massive amount of sand and shells from the beach for its construction in Devonport despite protests from locals. This left the town against the waves and risking massive coastal erosion.

On January 26, 1917, the winds at Gale Force coincided with an unusually six metres of spring tide, and by the time the night fell on the village night, the waves slammed the doors of thatchino's house on the coast.

By the morning, the entire village had fallen into the sea, but miraculously no one was injured. The 79 residents were able to settle and escape in the storm, sought safety in the highlands.

Only one house remained on the road leading to the village, standing on the 27th.

He, owned by Elizabeth Pretty John, stubbornly refused to leave, and was about 80 years old with the chicken until his death in 1964.

She acted as a guide to longtime visitors who wanted to see the ruins of the village. Today, her home is used as a summer holiday home.

The mirror said, shortly before her death, “I have all the memories here, but it's not good to sit on a moping. It was the shipyard that took all our beaches. It was blown away for four days and four nights. The sea was like mountains. I prayed to God that the wind would stop.

“I thought about moving to Dartmouth, and this is where I belong to my memories.”
