As the weather warms and summer approaches, many people want to escape the city's sprawl and immerse themselves in the fantastic outdoors. Luckily, you don't need to travel far from London to encounter stunning and adoring views.
One of the enthusiastic walkers recommends a walk in the countryside, just an hour away from the capital. Upon arriving at the station, you are greeted by spectacular views on your way to the historic market town, filled with independent, antique and quirky shops.
London and hiking enthusiast Zoe Tehrani is known for sharing his favourite British walks in Tiktok, but recently highlighted the route within an hour that begins with a train journey from London Bridge to Hassox, a charming village in West Sussex.
After a mile walk, you will find yourself in the heart of South Downs National Park. As Zoe explains, “You can follow the South Downs path with all the incredible views. After a few miles later, you will reach the Iron Age Hill Fort, then continue a few more miles and you will arrive in Lewis, a historic market town where the train can be returned to London.”
A few miles further down the road will be encountered by Ditchling Beacon, a fortress of the Iron Age Hills. After a few more miles, you will arrive in Lewis, a historic market town where you can return to London and take a train.
Zoe estimates the walk is about 10 miles from the station to the station. In a previous blog post about the hike, she warned Walker about “a steep hill to the ridge early in Hassock.”
As you walk, you will encounter quaint Jack and Jill's windmills and reach the top of a hike at the beacon of a trench to rise to the ridge.
Beyond this point, the terrain took out “a considerable level,” then took in some “serene hills,” then led to “a downhill for the rest of the walk to Lewis.”
Depending on whether Rumble is suitable for beginners, Zoe states:
Others share their impressions, adding, “Lewis to the grooved beacon at Brimay. It's a pretty walk.”
A fellow Walker, who attempted the route, was fascinated by the experience and said, “I did this and I loved it. I did 41K steps that day.”
Another comment: “Thank you for giving me another excuse to get out of London.”
Commuters will find direct train services from both the London Victoria Bridge and the London Bridge to Hassock, and similarly from Lewis to London Victoria.
Additionally, she conveniently creates Google Maps detailing the entire trail, ensuring easy navigation for adventurers.
