Spring has arrived fully in the UK and the promise of warm weather is certainly on the horizon. But for those who can't wait to be in the summer sun, there's a perfect early summer vacation that won't break the bank. Pax, on the Greek island, is an ideal destination, just a two-and-a-half hour ferry ride from Corfu, and is free from tourists. This means you can enjoy the calm scenery of the island and the serenity that comes with it.
It's a journey far from tax, as Corfu is only 3 hours and 15 minutes away from the UK. There are two main reasons to visit Paxos. First, even in May, the island enjoys an average temperature of 23c, perfect for achieving a sun-kissed glow without the repressive heat that forces indoors. Second, Pax is one of the least commercialized Greek islands in the Ionian Sea. As April gives way to May, tourists begin to flock to the Greek islands. However, unlike Corfu, Mykonos, Rhodes and Santorini, Paxos is relatively less crowded.
In fact, at Paxos you can stroll down the rustic streets without being overwhelmed by the crowds of holiday makers. Above all, Pax is famous for its stunning beaches.
The top three include Erimitis Bay, Tripitos Arch and Kipiadi. The sun will shine brightly in May, but the quiet nature of Paksos should have no problem finding a place to lay out the towel.
One reviewer was enthusiastic about praise of Elimitis Bay Beach. “Oh my heaven, this beach is just amazing. It's a huge white cliff, a white pebbles (there are plenty of small pebbles that are much more comfortable than many other Pax beaches), a crazy clear waters, and a big rock together.
They pointed out that walking to the beach might be challenging for some, but the scenic views are worth it.
Another reviewer raved about Trivitos Arch Beach: “Around the narrow rocky road, about 10-15 minutes' walk from Ogias, you'll get some fantastic scenic views of turquoise waters and Trivitos.”
They recommended it as the perfect place to watch the sunset: “At the actual arch or on top of the summit, this is a great place for a drink at sunrise or sunset. I highly recommend traveling here.”
