Coastal towns are a comprehensive list of the best places to live in the UK, and are better than the nearest cities. Just a 25-minute drive from Newcastle, Whitley Bay ranks higher than the bustling cities on the list of the most desirable places to travel to England and Wales.
Whitley Bay is known for its beautiful beaches, thriving food and drink scenes and independent Jamja cinemas. The Playhouse Theater continues to attract celebrities, including last year's Jason Munford. One of the town's most notable landmarks is the Spanish city dome, home to Trenchers, a highly rated fish and chip restaurant that recently placed third in the national awards competition.
According to data from Garrington Property Finders, the average cost of a family home is £430,256.
The rankings were compiled by Garrington, with Whitley Bay taking 78th out of 1,429, and Newcastle catching up to just 128.
The top three spots in the 2024 guide were claimed by Twyford in Berkshire, Epsom in Surrey and St Albans in respectively.
Stones are dumped away from Tynemouth, known as the “coolest” seaside town in the UK – Whitney Bay has plenty of beaches and bars. Both towns are known for holding the annual mouth of the Tyne Music Festival, Chronicle Live reports.
In recent years, the festival has seen performances from stars such as Rick Astley, Heather Small, Jack Savotty and local Lad Sam Fender.
