Africa is the second largest continent in the world and is increasingly popular with tourists. The reason is easy to understand. Visitors are constantly raving about the beauty of Mauritius and Zanzibar, as well as other countries on the mainland. One of them is often Namibia. There are many reasons to visit this country, but one of the biggest is Sosus Frey.
Famous for its otherworldly desert scenery, Sosusu Bray features the world's tallest sand dunes, peaking at about 1,000 feet. The red dunes form part of the Namib Desert and sit within Namib Naukluft National Park, one of Africa's largest protected areas.
A visit to Sossusvlei Namibia suggests that the area is approximately 400 km (250 miles) southwest of the capital Windhoek and is accessed from Sesriem Gate.
The 60 km (37 miles) paved road leads to a 4×4-only sand truck that takes tourists to the main sand dunes and pots.
The area is famous for its stunning orange and red colours caused by iron oxide in the sand.
Over time, the colours become stronger, giving you a surreal view, especially at sunrise and sunset.
One of the most popular dunes is the Big Daddy, which is about 325m (1,066 feet) overlooking the white clay pots of dead frey dotted with ancient dead trees.
Also nearby is a dune 45, rising 170m (557ft), and is considered to be one of the most photographed dunes in the world.
According to the general Wanderer, it is easy to climb and offers stunning views.
Aside from dune climbing, visitors can explore Sesriem Canyon, a deep, 30m (100 feet) natural canyon carved into the Tsauchav River, or ride a hot air balloon with views of the Red Desert.
The area is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located in the Namib Sand Sea, the world's only coastal desert, shaped primarily by mist.
The unique environment supports desert wildlife such as Orix, Jackal and Hardy insects, making it one of the rarest landscapes on the planet.
Travel experts recommend visiting between April and October when temperatures are low.
You will need a permit to enter the park and can be purchased at Sesriem Gate.
Accommodations range from budget campsites to luxury lodges such as the Sossusvlei Lodge and the Dead Valley Lodge. Many of them offer guided tours.
Another place worth visiting in Africa is Saan Meh and Principe.
