There is always a lot of debate about the countries people should visit at least once in their lifetime. It depends on what someone is looking for: culture, food, weather, nature, adventure, etc.
However, according to one travel expert, there is one destination that stands out from others, even in places that most people don't expect. The Travel Secrets named the podcast, adventurer and broadcaster Countess Alexandra Tolstoy Kyrgyzstan.
She said: “I know no one is going to go there, but I'm just going to say why – if they can, they should definitely.”
Tolstoy, who has traveled and worked in Central Asia for over 20 years, explained why the inland country left such a lasting impression on her.
The travel expert continued. “Kyrgyzstan is a nomadic country, so when people think about nomadic people, it's like every day is changing, but that doesn't happen at all.
“They actually live in winter villages and spend the summer high in alpine meadows.”
Of all the places she traveled, Tolstoy said that Kyrgyzstan “has everything she needs, but really maintains this incredibly rich yet simple life – and they are the happiest people I've seen.”
She added:
“They really nailed something we're losing more and more in the West, and that's what happiness is.”
For Tolstoy, the key lies in a way of life that is closely related to nature and community.
“Why interacting with everyday life and not complicated? It's close to nature. It has a community that really is close.”
