There is a discussion going on in Chennai to establish direct flight connections between South Africa and India, and in 2024, out of 3.1% of the total 75,541 tourists from India, 3.1% was from Chennai, according to the general manager of the Asian Central region, the regional manager of the Asian Chinese generals in Asia, Australia and Africa.

“India has always been a high priority market for tourism in South Africa, with strong demand from family travelers, adventure seekers and gorgeous tourists. Family travel remains in a stable segment, but we have witnessed a significant increase in tourists over 40 exploring South Africa,” he said.

“At the same time, the younger demographic presents promising opportunities. Tapping on this segment will be a key focus for us to move forward,” he said after hosting the 21st India Roadshow in the city on Wednesday.
As many as 300 Indian travel trade agents took part in a roadshow aimed at fostering trade partnerships and driving outbound travelers to South Africa.

Noting that South Africa's new electronic travel approval (ETA) system and a reliable tour operators scheme are set to significantly enhance visa processing for Indian tourists, he said, “In addition, there is a debate going on about establishing direct flight routes between the two countries, and there is a movement that is expected to increase the number of visitors further.”

“Travel convenience is a key component of destination preferences and we are actively working with stakeholders to improve connectivity for Indian travelers and simplify entry requirements,” he added.
