The charming little city, often covered by famous neighbours, is making it the best to visit this year. Ripon, a city immersed in history, is located in North Yorkshire, England. Located very close to popular tourist cities such as York and Newcastle, the city can be ignored by vacationers.
Called the must-see “undervalued” city to watch in 2025, Telegraph said: Turn further west and explore its distinctive high streets. Its clean pubs and twice-weekly markets are naturally praised, but the nearby Fountain Monastery is one of the most impressive ruins in the country.
“If you like flapping wings, come visit the town in the summer when Ripon Racecourse is the center of attention.”
Famous for its rich history, beautiful architecture and strong connections to the medieval and monastery past, the city has many offerings.
Ripon Cathedral dates back to the 7th century and boasts rich heritage and beautiful architecture. It played an important role in development. Originally founded as a monastery by St. Wilfrid in 672 AD. The present cathedral was built in the 12th century and replaced the damaged previous version. Over time, Gothic elements were added, including stunning stained glass windows and intricate stone carvings.

“The basement was old and there was a story to tell. Go on. Even if you're a non-communication enthusiast, it's a treat. You also have a touch card donation machine.”
A must-see tourist spot in the city is the Fountain Monastery and Studley Royal Water Garden. The abandoned 12th century monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is breathtaking.
It also includes scenic walks and Georgian water gardens with spots of wildlife.
The city is small but home to several museums. Tourists can explore the Workhouse Museum, the Prison & Police Museum and the Courthouse Museum.
Apart from historic architecture, the city also offers breathtaking outdoor and natural experiences.
Hackfall Woods is a hidden gem with stunning waterfalls, caves and scenic walking trails. Tourists can also take a walk through the peaceful canal and boat rides through the Yorkshire countryside on a walk on the Ripon Canal.

“The history of the building and its surroundings was explained along both sides of the church with many embroidered cushions (made with incredible skills recently made around 2000).
“The choir has very beautiful wood carvings. But the most wonderful is the basement where you can find a small chapel until 640 AD! (The Netherlands, when Christianity had not yet reached it. They had to wait until 750 when Bonifatius arrived and was killed by the wild Frisians).
