Kenya Airlines has announced that it has airlifted more than 10,000 passengers from Nigeria between 2023 and 2024.
According to the airline, this shows how important the Nigerian market is to both the company and the Kenyan government.
Speaking at a press conference in the Lagos office, Ngamau Stephen, regional manager of the US and West Africa, of Kenya Airlines, said the airline would increase flight frequency to Lagos from seven to 10 flights a week in 2024, leading to a 21% increase in capacity.
Stephen said the strengthening would provide greater flexibility and convenience for passengers and enhance their commitment to the Nigerian market.
He launched two years ago the new enhanced frequent flyer program “Asante,” designed to reward the most loyal passengers, adding that Nigeria is one of the first markets to experience the deployment.
He added that the airline is open to partnering with local Nigerian airlines to enhance connectivity in Nigeria and regionally and provide more travel options to passengers both inside and outside Nigeria.
Stephen praised the federal government for liquidating airlines' locked-up funds, thereby promoting a fostering environment for airlines to thrive.
Also speaking about Kenya's new visa system, the airline's regional manager praised the Kenya government for implementing progressive visa exemption policies in most African countries, including Nigeria.
He states: The government's commitment to solving key challenges in the aviation sector promotes a promotional environment for airlines to thrive. We look forward to using this positive momentum to expand operations and strengthen our service delivery.
“To promote tourism and leisure travel, Kenya Airways has introduced attractive stopover packages in Nairobi. These offerings allow passengers to explore Kenya's rich culture, wildlife and scenic landscapes during their transport, further enhancing the overall travel experience.”
Stephen also announced the introduction of London Gatwick as its second gateway to the UK, adding that the expansion will enhance services for airlines with options between Africa and the UK.
However, Kenya Airlines is already operating its existing business at London Heathrow.
