A new report, tourism trends for South Africa 2025, highlights the steady recovery and future growth of the country's tourism sector. The report, published by ResearchAndmarkets.com, points out that inbound visitors are expected to increase and be strengthened by increasing direct flights, reformed visa systems and infrastructure investments. The World Travel and Tourism Council estimates that in 2024 the sector contributed 8.8% to GDP, supporting 1.68 million jobs, and expanded further over the next decade.
Niche tourism markets, including luxury travel, wellness tourism and adventure tourism, are expected to see significant growth in addition to growing demand for ecotourism and BurritoPaspass destinations. The introduction of remote work visas is projected to increase long-term demand for accommodation, but initiatives such as the trustworthy tour operator scheme aim to increase arrivals from major markets such as India and China. Additionally, hosting at the G20 Summit in South Africa offers the opportunity to showcase tourism and event hosting features.
