The seaside town on Sicily, Italy's island of Sicily offers holidays for just 1 euro (84p), but tourists must be quick if they want to get a deal. The town of Sishuliana will host both couples and families at this low price to enhance the tourist attractions of the region. Sikurina is a small town that many tourists are unaware of despite its scenic coastline, castles, old buildings and winding streets.
Offerings to couples and families are for a three-day experience in town. It is open to both Italians and former people, including EU citizens and tourists from the UK. But when it comes to seizing the holidays, there is a catch. The contest involves recording a video for the applicants to explain why they want to visit town. In the clip you can explain what you do there – whether it's trying food, visiting the beach, or learning about the local culture and history.
Winners will be required to pay 1 euro (84p) for the guided tour included in the accommodation, food and package. However, since the awards do not include flights, they have to make their own way there.
If you want to try this 84p holiday yourself, it must be quick. Applications for this contest tomorrow (March 15th).
The full terms and conditions of the competition, including guidelines on how to send videos, can be found on the Siculiana Turistica website.
Giuseppe Zambito, Mayor of Sikuliana, said: “(Cicuriana) is outside the usual popular tourist route and hopes that the archaeological site of Agrietin in the valley of temples nominated this year as Italian cultural capital (the town) will seduce many tourists here as well.
“This free weekend programme hopes to test tourism infrastructure and extra tourist handling, making it one of Sicily's important destinations, not just summer.”
