Spanish consumer organization OCU has filed a legal test case against budget airline Ryanair, claiming a sustained claim for cabin luggage despite previous fines from the country's Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
Ryanair was among five airlines fined, but OCU says the affected airlines sued the matter in court.
The OCU says it has filed a “judicial case” against Irish career to “speed” the dispute by having the court confirm the charges as exploitative.
It says that national courts hope to adopt measures that temporarily prevent careers from engaging in such practices.
According to the OCU, during 2024, they received 1,139 complaints about Ryanair, including 248 baggage issues.
Spanish airlines were fined along with Ryanair, as were Norway and EasyJet.
Ryanair has the heaviest part of the overall 179 million euro penalty, totaling nearly 108 million euros.
At the time of the decision, the carrier argued that the fine was illegal and intended to undermine the operation of budget airlines in Spain.
