Most artists can think of one or two songs that fans probably seem to love, but they themselves get tired of playing it over and over again. The same rules apply to Sir Elton John, but there are many hits. In fact, he admits that “Hmm, 'Sing it' has a song that makes you think, 'I'm f***'.
When he questioned the song that was less enthusiastic about performing, he replied: “Maybe Crocodile Rock. But the audience loved it, and it's a guilty pleasure, as they say.” The song, recorded and released in 1972, reached the top spot in February 1973 with the singer's first US number one single, stayed for three weeks in a row. It turned golden in the same year, and in September 1995 it was available in platinum.
During the release and the Yellow Brick Road tour of Elton John's farewell, the star performed a huge number of songs, including a Greek theatre with Lake Cooper, and when he announced the Muppet Show in 1978.
He also vowed not to perform the song again after the tour held from September 9, 2018 to July 8, 2023. Ahead of the sold-out show, Elton John also spoke about other aspects of the tour that he hasn't missed, including travel and smooth radio reports.
Speaking at the press conference, he said: “I love doing live shows, I hate traveling.
“There's nothing better than pleasing an audience. And I'm very fortunate as a musician. I get feedback from my audience every night.”
He added: “It must be hard for a film actor to do a film all the time, and then you don't sneak into the premiere and sneak up again and get really feedback. Musicians get it, so they're so blessed.”
Of course, every star had to face a tough crowd in his lifetime, but Elton says he doesn't care.
He said:
“You never give in, you never say, “I can't care. I always wanted to have the best time with the audience. And I want to have the best time.”
