Located in the capital of Norway, Oslo, Akashus Castle dates back to the 1300s. It was converted into a Renaissance-style castle under King Christian IV and was originally built to protect the city. It features a church and two museums. Visitors describe it as a great walking spot.

7. Trakai Castle, Lithuania
Famous for its Gothic architecture, the castle on Trakai is located in the heart of Lake Garbe, an hour from Vilnius. Visitors arrive at the site across a long wooden bridge. During the summer, the castle hosts medieval festivals and concerts.
Boats across the lake can be employed, and in winter the lake freezes and becomes a natural skating rink. Visitors described it as a “must-see trip,” and one TripAdvisor user Fiamma11 said, “Trakai Castle is a gorgeous outing for the whole family. The lake is beautiful, and the Trakai history museum included in the castle is a gem.”
