Cruise holidays are generally seen as an opportunity to escape everything, forgetting some of the rules and responsibilities of everyday life. But while I warned cruising expert Gary Bembridge about his tips for traveller podcasts, there are still a few things that need to be very careful about.
“We'll look up on the next cruise,” says Gary. “You can see CCTV cameras everywhere,” he explains that on a modern cruise ship, you are being monitored almost everywhere.
Gary warned with one mandatory cruise tip. Things to consider if you are thinking of “adults” or naked sunbathing activities! ”
Even the infamous “Swingers Cruise” passengers can expect to be on camera whenever they are in one of the ship's public areas. However, there is one surveillance technology that many cruise ships don't have. Gary explains that between 20 and 25 people fall overboard from the cruise ship each year.
These days there are sophisticated electronic systems that can detect these accidents, but there is a reason why not all ships have them.
“These systems use thermal cameras and micro-radars to detect when someone has gone overboard and cost around $200,000 per ship to install,” Gary points out.
Some lines, such as Carnival and Disney, are investing, but these systems are not standard issues.
Another way you can track while on board is facial recognition, Gary said.
Photos taken when you first board the ship are stored on the ship in a computer system and can be used for everything from flagging them when they are found in snaps taken by the official ship photographer to unlocking the cabin door.
He added that it is important to recognize that ship photographers may not be directly employed by line operators, like health spa staff and various other workers they encounter onboard.
“This means a lot to our passengers,” Gary points out. “Cruise Line, buried deep within a cruise contract, says it will not accept responsibility for the contractor's activities, even if there are serious issues.”
On the other hand, if for any reason the ship's captain determines that it is likely to inconvenient other passengers as a result of your actions or because they are suspected of carrying an infection, they can limit you to the cabin or even lock you up in the ship's brig.
In extreme cases, you can expect to land at the next stop on the liner and return home in your own way.
With these CCTV cameras watching every move you make, it's important to remember all the rules and responsibilities of everyday life.
