On March 10, 2025, the New Zealand government announced its latest second certified employer workplace visa (AEWV). This visa is intended for those who meet the requirements for reapply and are attempting to expire by the original AEWV. To be eligible for future updates under this program, anyone who does not currently hold AEWV but is interested in working in New Zealand must apply for the first AEWV.

Who is eligible to reapply for a work visa for a certified employer?

You can reapply for another AEWV if:

Your current AEWV is the longest AEWV you are allowed to stay in New Zealand. Despite holding some AEWVs, the maximum allowed time has not exceeded. If AEWV reaches the maximum stay limit, you must depart New Zealand for a minimum of 12 months before reapplying.

    How long does it last?

Depending on the original AEWV issue date and the ANZSCO skill level of your position, the maximum continuous stay at AEWV will be between 3 and 5 years.

How to apply for a new certified employer's workplace visa (AEWV)

Employers must provide a job token, a special link provided by email as part of the job check procedure, to apply for another AEWV. especially:

If you apply for your first AEWV before March 9, 2025, you will be able to use the latest employment token. AEWVs that apply after March 10, 2025 require a new employment token.

When do I apply for AEWV?

I recommend applying for a new AEWV as your current one is about to expire. Check the validity of the police or medical certificate required when applying. By then, make sure your employer has a legitimate job token.

Job token reuse: You can continue to work in the same position at the same company, location, and reuse job tokens for the same salary. Only AEWVs issued before March 9, 2025 are eligible for this option.

Exception: Job token cannot be used again

I applied for AEWV after March 10, 2025. Some low-wage occupations paid less than $29.66 per hour at AEWV.

Application with Fresh Job Token: Employers must get a fresh job check and issue a new job token for the application if reusing the job token is not an option.

Can it be applied to families?

If they meet the criteria and pay the application fee, your partner and dependents can also apply for a visa that matches the length of your new AEWV. If this is your first time supporting a visa application, you will need to meet certain wage and skills requirements.
