Hiding in the Cotswold village of Barnsley is a retreat that has recently been recognized as the UK's best country hotel. With an impressive score, this hidden gem has gained traction as a must-see weekend break in Gloucestershire.
The Pig Inn the Cotswolds, which had been sliding under the radar, is now in the spotlight after an impressive victory. Located in the wealthy Barnsley, the 17th century mansion, the hotel's historic building is completely married to a serene environment. As a building listed in Grade II, the hotel is equipped with what the Times calls “architectural quirks.”
However, the accommodation has undergone recent renovations for seven months, but it has maintained its charm with 20 bedrooms and is decorated with a vintage feel.
It's no wonder Cotswolds won the award. It boasts a spectacular three-acre arts and craft style garden whose clients have been designed by renowned gardeners Rosemary Berry, including Charles and King Elton John.
The hotel was once home to artists for over 50 years, and was previously known as Barnsley House. The layout and boundaries of the space seem mostly as the way she left, allowing guests to wander around and explore towards their leisure time.
In nature there are hidden gems that include spaces for happy treatments that can be hidden in the garden known as the Field House.
Available treatments include bespoke massages, facials, hand and foot treatment, muscle wraps and scrubs to help guests get caught in nature.
The idea of bringing natural elements into your guest's stay is woven into every detail, including what you'll find on the menu.
Everything offered by PigIn restaurants is driven in the garden and works with a team that “so, grow and create” seasonal dishes.
The PigIns website states, “A compulsive commitment to homemade local produce: simple food is well made.”
He also claims, “Whatever we can't grow ourselves, we source from friends from local suppliers here in the Cotswolds.”
This hidden gem is simply hidden in the beauty of the Cotswolds, which is rarely found in villages, except in local pubs.
But at its gateway is Chichester, with a wide range of shops, markets and museums for guests to discover.
Rooms can be booked starting from £305 for those who want to stay in what is currently considered the best country hotel in the UK.
Dining in a restaurant doesn't start at £18 for the main.
Among the best locations in the Times' top 100, the Cavendish Hotel in Derbyshire, England, was voted as Hotel of the Year of the Year.
Winner hotels in other categories include 100 Princess Street in Edinburgh, and were voted as the best city hotel, while Saltmoor, North Yorkshire, was voted as the best beach hotel in the UK.
