Nigerians pay the best airfares in Africa, but get tattered treatment – NCAA

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority complains that Nigerians pay the best airfares in Africa, but are still being treated ragged by airlines.

Aviation regulators said Nigerians will pay a popular amount to fly more than any other country in Africa.

NCAA's Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection Michael Achimugu revealed this in a meeting with the management team in Rwandare over the long-term/delayed refund claims that many Nigerian passengers have levelled against the airline.

He complained about the non-professionalism of the airline staff, and according to him it was as clear as their approach.

Achimugu said, “Nigerians pay huge amounts for travel compared to all other African countries, so they deserve better. We don't recognize the disappointment of some of your staff, but it's funny because it's a customer relationship.

“Etiquette involving some of your staff is scary. Even the way your staff were talking on the video is disjointed and not professional, but you'll get to that later, as you were advising the airlines on customer relationship professionalism last year. The handling of passengers needs to be improved. Nigerians can't pay the type of fee they're paying and are treated like this.

“Our job is not to go out of business, but to have passengers, the king of the industry. If they don't exist, you and I don't exist in this industry. The idea of many airlines is that passengers don't have that many options. Even if they complain, they fly and come back because they need to fly. But the truth is, we saw many great airlines extinct. Maybe they thought it was impossible. Don't think it's impossible.”
