Although spring has not arrived at all, the weather is calm. This means it's the perfect time to enjoy and explore the outdoors. One of the top picks is a coastal walk between Walmer and Kingsdown in Kent.
In just 30 minutes, this flat, paved, stroller-friendly route passes through golden beaches, white cliffs, wildlife spots and two Henry VIII castles. This walk will cover about 2 miles. If you're starting a contract and going out for longer walks, you can even include a bustling town, a seaside pier and the castle of the third Henry VIII. Starting at Deal Castle Beach, extend your walk to 3 miles.
If you choose the short route that starts at Walmer, you will actually be quickly passing through Deal Castle, which is on the edge of town.
This stunning building holds most of the original 16th century structure and features a fortress wall made of Kentish Rugstone near Maidstone, about 15 feet thick. Along the way you will soon arrive at Walmer's Strand, a long line of shopfronts from the era that includes two pubs.
If you fantasize about pints, there's something even deeper in the Walmer village itself. To the left is a shining British channel, and a sequence of boats that are soon maintained by the Downs Sailing Club.
You will then reach a vast pebble stretch of Walmar Beach. Furthermore, on the outskirts of Walmer, there is the second and magnificent Castle of King Henry VIII.
With its stunning gardens, Walmer Castle is a jewel of the Kent crown. The cannons visible from the road point directly towards the sea.
A mile away is King's Down's charming “Holiday Village” that is accessible via a pass lined with a wide bench.
On the right are lush pastures and trees, while on the left are golden beaches and the English Channel dotted with trees, wild flowers and shrubs.
Once you reach King's Down you will be greeted by a view of gorgeous coastal characteristics. Featuring beachfront garden tables, Zettland Arms Pub is a must-see before relaxing on Pebble Beach.
Beyond this beach, the white cliffs of Dover begin to rule the far end of Kingsdown Beach. All of this can be explored in under 30 minutes.
If you're parked at Walmer, your return trip is the perfect 2-mile walk.
This breathtaking segment of the Saxon Shoreway, one of the oldest and most picturesque walking routes in England, is truly an eye-opener. The 153-mile route from Gravesend to Hastings offers stunning scenery and covers some of the most important moments in human history, from the invasion of the Romans and Conquerors to two world wars.
