CMA CGM wins the 777 freight fleet to 5 to set up the Chicago hub

French logistics giant CMA CGM Group is to establish a freight hub in Chicago.

CMA CGM confirmed the plan as part of a broad investment in US activities.

The company first established its own air cargo operator, CMA CGM Air Cargo in 2021 using the Ex-Qatar Airways Airbus A330-200FS.

He then became an early customer of the A350 freighter, receiving four orders and signing a pair of 777Fs.

The company expanded further last year, doubling its agreement with the A350FS, revealing that it will need two more 777Fs for its operations between Asia and North America.

During last summer, CMA CGM Air Cargo operated the 777F with services from Paris Charles Degaard to both Hong Kong and Shanghai. Also, A330F flight to Zhengzhou.

However, last year it introduced a third 777F on the new TransPacific route between Chicago O'Hare and Seoul, Hong Kong and Anchorage.

He says he hopes another pair of twin jets arrive this year as part of a wide US investment worth $20 billion.

This expansion of US air cargo capacity will be “fixed” by a new hub in Chicago, allowing five 777Fs to “enhance US trade and connectivity” as “run by American pilots.”

“In the next four years, we will significantly expand our US flag (shipping) fleet, expand the capabilities of major container ports on both coasts, develop cutting-edge warehouses across the country, and establish important air cargo hubs in Chicago.”

The figures in Boeing's official backlog are listed as CMA CGM ordered three 777Fs, but Airframer attributes another 39 to an unidentified customer.
