Crete has launched a tourism campaign to lure more visitors to the sunny coast and beautiful beaches. The Greek island is known for its beautiful scenery. In fact, Elafonissi Beach has been named the best beach in the world by TripAdvisor.
However, the European islands, best known for their beach holidays, are full of ancient palaces. However, the historic locations of Crete and four UNESCO World Heritage sites provide a good reason for tourists to book flights all year round. The palaces of Nossos, Mary and Zacross are all complexes of the Minoan Palace in the Bronze Age, offering a unique experience and a glimpse into the lives of ancient peoples who influenced the culture of Crete.
Apart from frescoes and architecture, there are several unexpected elements worth visiting these palaces.
Specifically, in Knosus Palace, known for its maze layout, you may be surprised to find the remains of a fully functional plumbing system. Before that time, the palace was perfect for drainage, flush toilets and running water clay pipes.
One of the earliest civilizations, the Minoans, also designed natural air conditioning systems. The palace structure allows for natural air conditioning to keep you cool during the hot summer months.
Similarly, Knossos still has a throne room. So you can see the plaster chair there where the king of Nosus sat.
Other spots worth visiting include Maria Palace and The Cross Palace, considered one of the most important Minoan structures. The Cross may have served as Minoan gateway to the Middle East, as evidenced by many Middle Eastern crafts discovered on the site.
Finally, you need to add the Palace of Kidonia to your list. Discovered by Greek, Danish and Swedish archaeologists, the Minoan Palace in Kidonia is found in Chania, in the northwest of what is now Crete.
In his statement, Crete governor Stavros Arnaoutakis said: He added: The credibility of the people and the uniqueness of the landscape make Crete special. ”
