British towns known as the “English Riviera” like southern France | UK | Travel

Do you fantasize slices of the French Riviera without leaving the British coast? Well, you're lucky because we have our own version of the charming holiday hotspot here. Hiding on the coast of Devon is the British Riviera, composed of Torquay, Paicun and Brixham.

The French Riviera may be famous for its celebrity charm, but there is no need to spurt the taste of high-quality life. A trip to Coastal Paignton is more than quenching your UK cravings for Art de Vivre.

Our seaside town is even said to rival the breathtaking scenery of southern France, Mylondon reports.

So what do Paynington, Torkey and Brixham have to offer?

Naturally, being on the Devon coast means you are not far from the ocean. The weather may not be available to the beach yet, but these coasts aren't just for sunbathing.

There are plenty of beaches to explore Paignton and its surroundings. The top TripAdvisor list is the vastly extended Goodlingun Sands of the Golden Coast Line.

This beach-side award-winning beach offers safe swimming conditions and plenty of activities for the whole family.

Hiding between Paignton and Brixham is the stunning Broadsand Beach. A family favorite, Broadsand offers a perfect location for gravel buildings and a calm paddle to its peaceful seas.

If you're keen on kickabout, there's plenty of open space beyond the sandy beach.

With anxiety about Compton Castle, you jump into the local heritage. This is a medieval hub that has housed the Gilbert family for nearly six centuries, including the famous Sir Humphrey Gilbert, known as Sir Walter Raleigh's Half Brother.

For those who please the wonders of Mother Nature, this place is a true treasure trove on the southwest coast road, directed directly to the head of Roundham.

A leisurely stroll around the spectacular layered red cliffs of the promontory on the wheelchair access route, unveiling panoramic views over Torbay towards Torquay, and on clear days it stretches to Portland as far as Lime Bay.

Enjoying beach snacks while visiting Paignton is practically obligatory. Crown crowned TripAdvisor's Respected Traveler Choice Award in 2022, Paignton's Mariners Fish and Chips has earned a reputation as the best eatery for food “fast, friendly service, largely beautifully cooked.”

Their menu is packed with options, from traditional cod to juicy scampi.
