Indigo will mark its entry into long-haul business with its European flights in July.
On March 6, Indian operators revealed Manchester and Amsterdam as the first two cities.
The two cities will have a three-week flight from Delhi starting in July, and Indigo says that it will “grow even more” when the 787 has more leased 787s enter the fleet.
The low-cost carrier has wetted up to four 787-9s from Nordic Atlantic Aviation. The first arrived in India in March and was deployed on flights between Delhi and Bangkok.
Indigo expects to receive three other widebody aircraft later this year. The 787 lease is part of the “Internationalization Strategy” ahead of next year's long-distance Airbus A321XLRS and the 2027 A350.
Indigo will be the sole operator of the Delhi Manchester route, but on the Amsterdam route, it competes with KLM and Air India, which operate daily flights.
Indigo Chief Peter Elbers said: “India has strong ties to both the UK and the Netherlands for business and tourism, and there is a large Indian diaspora living in these countries.”
He adds: “These new Indigo long-distance routes are steps towards bringing closer to realizing a shared vision for incorporating India into a global aviation hub.”
