Johannesburg, March 6, 2025: In this 40th anniversary year, City Lodge Hotels announced that it had achieved Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Level 1 status as of March 4, 2025. This exciting development is the first time I've achieved Level 1.

City Lodge Hotels has earned a total of 92.95 points and 1.5 Bbee levels through participation in the Youth Employment Services (Yes) program. Points were obtained using key metrics such as:

Enterprise Ownership: 23.34 Points Management Control: 14.65 Points Skill Development: 12.05 Points Enterprise and Supplier Development: 34.91 Points Socioeconomic Development: 8.00 Points Learner Participation and Absorption 1.5 x YES Targets and 5% Absorption

By digging deeper into these results, the group achieved:

Black ownership: 26.52% Black women ownership: 12.13% Black new entrants: 6.67% Black designated group: 5.31% Black youth: 0.53% Black people with disabilities: 0.45% Black unemployment

In its 2024 integration annual report, City Lodge Hotels reflects its continued growth and dedication to improvement. “Since the launch of the group, we have not been enthusiastic about pay gaps based on race, gender or age. This stems from our firm belief in equal opportunities and the need to advance the role of women across our business and hotel industry. The testament to this commitment is that 45% of our boards are women, and over 35% of our executive committee are women, and we strive to increase aggressively.”

City Lodge Hotels CEO Andrew Weiger praised the TDI Committee for their work, saying, “A member of Exa and Senior Management, the TDI Committee will convene quarterly to monitor five pillars of change. By closely monitoring these elements of the B-BBEE, the group's transformation goals will be met.”

He said, “Diversity training is started by HR and is designed to complement the principles and values supported by the TDI committee. We strive to match staff demographics with the larger population of our guests and the country, focusing on enabling organic transformation.”

“This is a proud moment for all of us, as achieving B-Bbee Level 1 is a collective milestone embodying the core value and dedication of our hardworking teams at 58 hotels and four hotel brands, Courtyard Hotels, City Lodge Hotels, Town Lodges and Road Lodges.”
