Sky Alps grounds several aircraft after maintenance certification concerns emerge

The Italian Regional Carrier Sky Alps temporarily grounded seven aircraft as a precaution following concerns over maintenance certifications that appeared during the audit.

The Sky Alps is based in Bolzano, northern Italy, with around 14 Dejavilland dashes 8-400.

Inspectors of the Italian civil aviation regulator ENAC conducted an audit from February 26-28.

According to the ENAC, physical examinations and documents on the aircraft registered in Malta have found “many misconformities.”

The inconsistency indicated a defect in the aircraft maintenance certificate regarding European Union regulatory requirements.

Certifications provided by certain maintenance technicians have been found to be “not compliant.” He was then banned from accessing airports run by carriers.

ENAC says it received “full cooperation” from Sky Alps owners and staff.

However, given the uncertainty regarding the certification of maintenance carried out in the fleet, the carrier says it has suspended flights on seven aircraft “to prevent the risk of air transport operations.”

“These aircraft may have a return to service upon completion of appropriate corrective actions,” ENAC says.

These measures are proposed by Sky Alps and evaluated by ENAC in coordination with Maltese counterparts.
