On the beautiful islands of Asia, there are few tourists due to their more famous neighbours.

Palawan is a Philippines island with a population of 995,000 people. The capital and largest city is Puerto Purinza.

It is known as the Philippines' last frontier and also as the Philippines' best island with wildlife, jungle mountains and white sandy beaches that attract tourists.

    Lonely Planet said of Palawan:

One of the island's most unique attractions is Puerto Purinza Underground River National Park, one of the world's longest navigable river crossing caves.

Visitors can ride a motorless paddle boat with audio guides, and take about 45 minutes to travel to a cave about 1.5km upstream

Another popular attraction is diving and snorkeling in the Coral Triangle Biodiversity Corridor. In Tabata Harrief National Park, a partially sunk atoll, Hammerheads mix huge wraps and mantas into coral shelves.

Other top places to visit include Coron Island, Kuyawau Falls, Minirock Island, Cadrao Island and Estrella Falls.

The island is home to many warm sandy beaches, including Nakpan Beach, Duri Beach and Long Beach, where you can enjoy clear turquoise waters.

There are eight airlines flying from the UK to Palawan, with the most popular flights from London and Manchester taking 24 hours. Palawan has countless places to stay across the island, including hotels, hostels and Airbns for visitors.

The island received only 800,000 visitors in 2022, but more than half (1.8 million) of the number the Maldives welcomed in the same year.
