Cruise passengers are warned of a new scam targeting people who take part in popular traditions and find rubber ducks. The cruise duck trend, in which passengers hide small rubber ducks around the ship to find others, has become a beloved entertainment for many travelers.
But scammers are now exploiting their popularity.
In this year's cruise scam and trick video, creator tips for travelers stated:
“I see scammers posting on social media. Many times Facebook cruises and roll call groups post photos of seemingly homemade ducks.
“They invite people to message them directly and offer to send ducks in return for the cost of postage.
“Of course, people who send money via the requested cash transfer app have not received anything.”
Reports show that scammers have already made a fair amount of money from this scam, as many enthusiastic cruise visitors fall on seemingly innocent offers.
Passengers are advised to be cautious, especially when purchasing cruise ducks online from unknown sellers on social media.
Instead, experts recommend bringing ducks from reputable retailers or joining the game once.
