Private investigator Aaron Bond from Bond Reese investigators warned that the presence of hidden cameras has escalated over the past few years.
“We have come across many cases where individuals are unconsciously monitored or recorded without permission,” warned Aaron.
This is why it's important to do one time where you're staying at the moment you step into your holiday rental or a hotel room.
“Smoke detectors are a common hiding place because they provide an unobstructed view of the room,” Aaron said.
“If the smoke detector looks different from the others in the hotel, or if something feels bad, then check it out in more detail.”
The hidden camera has also been found near the “alarm clock and TV screen” where it is connected to the main to power it.
“I've seen cameras also fitted into plug sockets and phone chargers that remain in the room,” Aaron said.
“It's very difficult to find these, but you can see the lenses where the screws should be.”
Anyone staying in their new location should be wary of looking into the space.
“Look for objects that seem out of place and look for small holes in walls, furniture or electronics. These are common hot spots for cameras,” Aaron said.
“One way to find hidden lenses is to turn off all the lights in the room and then scan the room using your phone's camera torch.”
He explained:
“Because it uses the camera mode of your phone to scan each part of the room and the infrared device is picked up on the screen.”
