This travel hack may result in less drainage on long-distance flights.
Traveling by plane is always an tiring experience, no matter how long the flight is. Fighting through security and finding gates often means you have to wake up very early to be at the airport just hours before your flight.
Then, if you need to spend a few hours in the air after that ordeal, it can make you feel exhausted. However, one frequent flyer and travel expert said there are things you can do to help manage your time on long distance flights so that you don't feel it's withered when you finally land.
KJ, who regularly posts travel advice on his Tiktok account, recommended a technique called “time blocking.” This technique gives each part of the flight a certain amount of time and categorizes it into more manageable chunks.
She said:
KJ started by explaining that actual flight failures vary depending on the length of the flight, but as an example video, he used an overnight flight “from somewhere in Europe” that is usually 8-10 hours.
She began by saying that the first 90 minutes of your flight should be “strictly atmospheric.” This means instead of sitting down and starting a movie right away, you'll instead make sure you're comfortable and probably listen to podcasts and music.
She said: “This 90 minutes is strict for the album you've wanted to listen to. It's strict for thinking whether you want chicken and pasta (for meals in flight). It's literally just for the atmosphere.
KJ allocated 90 minutes for this block, but should last until the first meal is served. At this point you will need to move to the next time block. KJ gave him 90 minutes too. She said this is your “meal and movie” time and you should have dinner and watch “one movie.”
She insisted that it was necessary to suggest eating the meal slowly, fully enjoying it and digesting it neatly, then drinking tea. Once the movie is complete, you will need to allocate time for sleep or “active rest.” KJ allocated this a 3 hour block, but it could be longer depending on the length of the flight.
The expert said: “If you can't sleep on the plane, you'll rest aggressively. This is when the noise keeps canceling your headphones. I'm wearing white noise.
“If you have a moment when you're really not sleeping, don't look at your phone. Don't lift that eye mask. Count back from 100. I don't care what you have to do. Find your Zen.
Once she gets at least three hours of rest, KJ likes to move into a segment called “Chaubingi.” This is where she sees the series she downloaded using a laptop or tablet and says she's “really excited.” She does this for about 90 minutes, then moves to the final 90 minute block (pre-landing reset).
This final block includes having breakfast depending on the length of your flight, but drinking water during this period is also important. KJ also uses this time to put a bottle of water into the bottle to brush his teeth and freshen it before finally returning to what he did at the start of the flight with music and podcasts.
She said: “That's how you survive.”
