Not Nigeria, South Africa, US Visa Waiver 2025 Program

…As more than 40 new eligible countries and policy updates emerge

Among other African countries, Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana have implemented policy updates to the new US (US) visa waiver program in 2025, including permit privilege eligibility.

The US Department of State recently announced the 2025 Visa Waiver Program (VWP) update.

This update simplifies visa-free entry to the US for millions of people around the world, making business, tourism and transport travel more accessible.

However, some others regret new developments as the new VWP presents exciting opportunities for international travelers from many countries.

The 2025 Visa Waiver Program includes 40 countries where citizens can travel to the United States without a visa.

This year, Romania joined the list as a newcomer. However, Taiwan and the UK continue to maintain their qualifications under certain conditions.

The list includes Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy and Israel.

Others include Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Japan, Slovenia, Latvia, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Spain, Lithuania, Sweden, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Katar.

What is the US Visa Waiver Program?

The Visa Waiver Program allows travelers in eligible countries to visit the US without a visa for up to 90 days for tourist and business purposes.

Instead of going through a long visa process, eligible individuals can apply for the electronic system for travel approval prior to departure (ESTA).

    2025 What changed in VWP

Most of the VWP list has not been changed, but adding Romania shows significant updates. The US also focuses on strengthening security checks and prioritizing countries with strong diplomatic relations and border security standards.

Nevertheless, Romania, Taiwan and the UK have been excluded from the 2025 US Visa and Interview Waiver Program.
