    Malawi joins Africa's single air transport market to increase connectivity

    Malawi has become the 38th country to participate in the African Air Transport Market (SAATM), a key African Union initiative aimed at liberalizing atmospheric travel across the continent. The signature formalized the commitment with Dr. Amani Abu Zeid, chairman of Infrastructure and Energy, at the 38th African Union Summit held at Addis Ababa of Malawi Foreign Minister Nancy Tembo. The move is expected to increase regional connectivity, lower airfares and stimulate trade and tourism.

    SAATM, part of the African Union Agenda 2063, is attempting to create a seamless air transport sector by removing restrictions on airline operations between member states. Minister Tembo emphasized that Malawi's accession will strengthen the country's commitment to economic integration and increased investment opportunities. As Africa works towards a unified aviation market, the AU continues to prioritize sustainable aviation fuels, safety improvements and transport infrastructure projects, further strengthening the continent's long-term mobility and economic growth Masu.
