Through the Green Initiative, the Green Initiative has donated 100,000 trees to the Kuwimba district of Tanzania's Mwanza region as part of its commitment to planting and environmental sustainability. The project includes a mixture of shaded trees, fruit trees and erosion-controlled species, aimed at enhancing climate resilience and biodiversity conservation. During the handover ceremony at Hungumalwa Middle School, Susan Mashibe, via Airlines CEO, highlighted the role of planting in fighting climate change and ensuring a sustainable future for the region. Students from Hungumalwa Secondary participated by planting 1,500 trees on the school grounds.
The initiative is part of Green's broader goal of planting one million trees in the Mwanza region, following previous efforts at Mwanza Airport and Magh districts. The organization's reforestation drive is consistent with Tanzania's national environmental policy and global climate action goals. The initiative highlights the focus on sustainable practices to protect natural ecosystems and mitigate the impacts of climate change with plans to expand planting efforts in all areas since Mwanza.
