Thai Airways International is leasing batches of Airbus A321neos starting next year for its regional network.
The carrier has obtained 8 Twinjet types from lender SMBC Aviation Capital.
According to the Ireland-based leasing company, the aircraft will be delivered between 2026 and 27.
Jets statistics that are obtained from SMBC's direct order backlog and air flamers.
The latest backlog figures for Airbus are SMBC ordered an A321neos of 87, of which 36 are available.
Thailand's older generation A320 fleet is equipped with an international aero engine V2500, but engine selection has not been disclosed.
SMBC Aviation Capital Head of Airline Marketing Conor Stafford said the aircraft will “enhance” the operational efficiency of carriers and “enhance the overall customer experience.”
Thai Airways has introduced a new cabin upgraded to the A320 after the operation of Thai Smile Airways on the mainline carrier has been absorbed.
“This has greatly improved revenue, aircraft use and the creation of a seamless travel experience for passengers,” says Korakot Chatasingha, the top commercial director.
The new layout aimed at improving products for short-distance routes includes “spacious seating.” It has 12 seats in a 4 ablosted configuration of the first three rows, and includes wireless in-flight entertainment.
Thai Airways will reclaim all 20 aircraft by the second quarter of this year.
