The Foreign, Federal and Development Authority (FCDO) says “the borders of all lands will be closed.” The UK Government's Foreign Office is responsible for issuing the latest travel guidance from around 226 countries and countries, among many other tasks.
FCDO aims to keep travelers internationally updated and safe and provides regular guidance. FCDO issued an update to Ecuador on Thursday in a new post on X's previous Twitter.
The article reads “For information about the closing of all Ecuador's land borders due to general elections between February 8th and 10th, read #ecuador's latest travel advice.” Details found in the accompanying links say that FCDO advises everything except travel essential to parts of Ecuador, stating that opposing FCDO advice could void travel insurance.
FCDO advises except for essential trips to the coastal provinces of Esmeraldas, Manavi, Santa Elena, Guayas, El Oro, Los Rios and Santo Domingo de Los Tzaciras. It adds that this does not apply to airside transits within Guayaquil Airport in Guayas.
It also advises all essential travel to areas within 20km of the Ecuador-Colombian border, with the exception of the El Angel Ecological Department Reserve, Lumichaka border intersection, the town of Tarkan and the Pan-American highways.
Describing the borders of closed lands, the FCDO guidance wrote: “Due to the February 9th presidential election, all Ecuador land intersections will be closed on February 8th-10th. Additional security checks.”
