The once prosperous seaside town of the UK has been called “melancholy” by the locals | Travel News | Travel

    Rams Gate, Kent, UK

Considering the seaside town in the UK, I think of the beaches on the sandy beach, the smell of fish and chips in the air, the crowds of people desperate to find the best place in the sun, and of course ice cream.

Most of the seaside towns in the UK offer more, but we don't know if Kent's seaside town, Lamb's Gate, can be said to be the same.

As a local, I visited Rams Gate many times. When I first visited, I had a reminiscence of the beach and white cliffs on the sandy beach.

Second, I enjoyed traveling to the former concert hall listed on the Grade II, the largest weatherpoon in the UK, and the Royal Victoria Pavilion located on the seaside.

However, I noticed how empty it was as I visited Rams Gate for many years.

The town was once full of lively and independent restaurants, unique restaurants, and visitor's stable flow.

However, recent reports from Kent Online released in December revealed that 65 tremendous shop units (about one per four) are empty. More than half of the store are not advertised like sales or rent.

This was emphasized by a recent trip to the town.

And the locals seem to be aware of the change. The posted Facebook Group's Kent Views “Ramsgate Many Sky Shops” posted a photo of all the empty shops of Ramsgate, and the locals are “melancholy” and “sadness” and “sadness”. I saw it expressing.

Some people said: “Very sad, Rams Gate is one of my favorite places, but high steets are disappointed. There is a nice small cafe on the positive side.”

Another person writes as follows. “Very sad. Signs of the times.”

On the other hand, another resident asked: “It's strange because the Broadsteer floor and Margate are okay. Why isn't it Rams Gate?”

The adjacent Deal town, Margate, Broadsteares, and whitstings were recently on top. The London people arrived in large numbers to spend weekends in the sea, enjoying trendy new vintage shops and hip restaurants.

Last year, after visiting the Japanese -style restaurant “Blue Pelican”, the famous food critic Grace Dent emphasized the contract.

On the other hand, Broadsteares, selected as one of the “coolest” places in the UK in 2023, became a hot spot for tourists after appearing in Sammendez's film Empire Obssan, starring Olivia Colman. I did it.

Whitstable, a beautiful seaside town like a picture, has long been called “Chelsea on Sea”, but Margate, the neighbor of Rams Gate's hipstar, is a sandy beach, vintage amusement park, Dreamland, lively. Thanks to the bar, it is always an activity nest.

What do you need to provide Rams Gate?

Rams Gate may not have simply acquired the trendy buzz that neighbors have acquired in recent years. However, if you are looking for a cheap holiday or day trip in the sea, there are still many things you need to do.

The Rams Gate Tunnel is one of the main attractions of the town, protecting 60,000 people during World War II. The tunnel is the largest private tunnel network in the UK and is open to the tour.

For a slightly different thing, visitors can explore the cave of a smuggler built into the cliffs in Pegwell.

Alternatively, if you want to disturb your coastal wind, a boat trip around Rams Gate Port will go. There are a lot of local skips that provide boat trips, but some participate in beautiful coastline tours, while others often see some of Kent's wildlife.

As mentioned above, Rams Gate is the home of the largest Weatherpoon in the UK. Former concert halls and assemblerrooms were designed by architect Stannelida Bemport Adoshead, one of the most risky Victoria/Edward dynasties in the area.

The pub is located on the seaside, contains a meznin level and a beach front terrace. This is the perfect place to enjoy cheap pints and some chips while looking at the sea.

If you're looking for something more traditional, you won't make a mistake. This pub offers a wonderful selection of Casque, craft beer, cider, and classic birthnacks.

Different from the Beat truck with a slightly different thing, head to EATS 'N' BEATS. The bar and the kitchen on the King Street offer great wine, cocktails and beer along with delicious tapas dishes.

EATS 'N' BEATS is open from Thursday to Sunday, with a wonderful brunch menu available from 10:30 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

Many Rams Gate shops are in the sky, but there are many antiques, vintages and retro shops to explore. Petticoat Lane Emporium is Kent's largest indoor market, and there are everything from fashion, art to vintage items and curiosity.

Family -run business lives in a 10,000 -square -foot warehouse in 200 independent stalls. Visitors can also enjoy coffee or alcohol tipple on on -site Baker Street Bister & Bar.

Arch 16 antiques, vintage, and retro junk are the best places to explore on weekends. Because it is filled with accessories, furniture, retro toys, etc., it is easy to get lost and remember the day you passed.

Rams Gate is not as attractive as Whitstar, and may not be as trendy as trading, but there are hidden jewels excavated despite empty stores. In 2023, the Ramsgate Empty Shops Action Group was launched. The purpose is to support companies, councils, community groups, and entrepreneurs to revitalize the town.

I think it's a matter of time for Rams Gate to be the next destination of everyone's lips.
