    OR Tambo confirms jet fuel supply amid refinery chaos

    OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) has secured sufficient jet fuel supplies for January, despite a fire at South Africa's Natref refinery impacting domestic production. The airport currently has 27.1 million liters of jet fuel, equivalent to approximately 7.6 days of operational capacity based on a daily consumption of 3.6 million liters. Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) is working with industry stakeholders to address February fuel requirements (totaling 97.2 million liters) ahead of the scheduled restart of the refinery on 27 February 2025. .

    Key measures to mitigate potential supply disruptions include diversifying fuel sources, prioritizing stock transport from Durban via Transnet, and building a stockpile base at King Shaka International Airport with excess capacity. is included. Airlines and suppliers are also adopting strategies such as fuel tanker transportation to manage fuel demand. Meanwhile, ACSA continues to work with government agencies, the Southern African Fuel Industry Association and other partners to ensure the continued operation of South Africa's busiest airport.
