    City Lodge Hotels is proud to play a leading role in the revitalization of Durban and is ready to welcome visitors this holiday season. Through strong partnerships with local and national tourism stakeholders, City Lodge Hotels is committed to providing a safe, vibrant and unforgettable holiday experience in Durban and its surrounding areas with the 'Take the Lead Tourism' roadshow. We have been instrumental in initiating collaborations with named tourism partners. .

    The 'Take the Lead Tourism' roadshow is a collaboration between City Lodge Hotels, Durban Tourism, South African Tourism, KZN Tourism and Film Industry, City of eThekwini, Durban Metro Police, Durban Chamber of Commerce, SATSA, TBCSA, FEDHASA and other tourism and hospitality partners. The product owner and company was launched in Durban on 4 December 2024. The theme of this initiative is 'Exploring the Durban Journey'. “Adventures Together” – highlights the city’s readiness to attract visitors with clean beaches, strong safety measures and revitalized tourist attractions. This is the first of many similar activities and continues to be a strong collaboration demonstrating an ideal public-private partnership.

    “Durban holds a special place in our hearts and we all associate this holiday destination with sun, sand, sea and ice cream, creating memorable moments with family. It brings out your inner child,” says Lindiwe Sangweni. Mr. Sydow, Chief Operating Officer, City Lodge Hotels. “With seven hotels in KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, Umhlanga, Pietermaritzburg and Richards Bay, we are committed to contributing to the growth of tourism as a responsible community member, working closely with public and private stakeholders. We are committed to making Durban shine.”

    The City Lodge Hotel General Manager actively engages directly with the local community and various tourism bodies and associations to ensure that initiatives to revitalize areas such as Durban and Umhlanga are practical and effective. . Additionally, City Lodge Hotels actively participates in partnerships with key industry players in all regions where its 59 hotels are located: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique.

    As part of its commitment to improving Durban's attractiveness, City Lodge Hotels has recently invested in upgrades to two iconic properties: City Lodge Hotel Umhlanga Ridge and Road Lodge Durban. These hotels now feature fresh, contemporary designs tailored to the needs of both leisure and business travelers. Additionally, Town Lodge Umhlanga has added many new dishes to its already mouth-watering menu.     The city's December calendar is packed with exciting events, from the Durban Jazz Festival on 26 December 2024 to the highly anticipated Fact Durban Rocks New Year's Eve Celebration. The arrival of MSC Eulivia and MSC Musica brings a festive buzz to the port, marking the start of the 2024/25 cruise season and bringing waves of international tourists to Durban's shores.

    Durban's renewed focus on tourism is expected to provide a significant economic boost this season, with visitor numbers exceeding 1.3 million, direct spending increasing by R2.5 billion and GDP increasing by R6.3 billion. It is estimated that more than 1,000 jobs will be created.
