From people hogging their seats to people taking up all the space in the overhead lockers with bags that are too big for the space, to people kicking the back of their seats for the entire flight, there are some people who really get on the nerves of other passengers. Masu.
It's not just your fellow passengers who are annoyed by this incredibly frustrating traveler. Flight attendants also have their least favorite people.
Paula Gahan, who has worked as a flight attendant for more than 10 years, has revealed her least favorite types of airline passengers and their most annoying habits.
If any of these apply to you, it may be worth reconsidering your onboard activities the next time you fly to maintain a good relationship with flight attendants.
The first are those who decide that an airplane's galley (the aircraft's kitchen used to store and prepare food and drinks) is a great place to exercise.
“I can't express enough how annoying they are,” Gahan told the Telegraph. “Would I shove my Lycra-covered butt in your face at work? No, so don't do it at my place.”
Airplanes are designed for sitting, not stretching or doing anything particularly active. It can be a nuisance to those around you and is often perceived as inconsiderate on long flights when many people are trying to relax or sleep.
A better option is to stand up and take a quick walk up and down the aisle, and save the yoga for when you're back on the ground.
“A friend told me how she loves popping into the galley at night and chatting with the crew for hours. 'Oh, the crew loves me!' I just stood there. And I've been just talking to them for years! ” said Ganhan.
“Let me burst that bubble of delusion. Honey, the crew doesn't love you. They tolerate you out of kindness.”
Work hours vary by airline, but the average work time for flight attendants is around 12 to 14 hours, but can be longer on international flights. Therefore, if you have the opportunity to take a quick break, it makes sense to take it easy.
Another save piece that pisses off gun fans is the line, “I've probably flown more than you.”
“Aren't you going to take three more flights today right after this one? I didn't think so,” she said.
According to Indeed, flight attendants typically log 65 to 85 hours of flight time per month, not including overtime. As a British Airways flight attendant, you can fly up to five flights a day, depending on your schedule.
Even if you travel abroad regularly for work, it's doubtful that you'll be able to log so many flights in a day.
It also seems to be commonplace now for other passengers to pick up food lying around on the plane. “They swoop in and swipe it without a shred of shame,” Gahan continued. For a change of pace, it might be best to pack your own snack box or raid duty-free items before boarding.
Finally, some people simply throw their trash on the floor. This seems to be a common source of frustration for other passengers, who took to Quora to voice their anger.
One person wrote, “Flight attendants and cleaners are not your personal maids, so you should try to throw away your trash before you get off the plane.”
Another said: “Because humans are generally selfish and entitled pigs. When they pay for a place like a seat on an airplane or a booth in a restaurant, the service staff is really there to cater to their every whim. It is assumed that…for them, literally nothing is more important than personal experience…”
