JOHANNESBURG – Another news from today's European aircraft manufacturers, Airbus has opened a new customer support facility in Johannesburg, South Africa for its African customers.

The facility provides technical assistance, engineering and maintenance solutions, fleet performance analysis, training services and on-site customer support for families of all Airbus commercial aircraft, including the A220, A320, A330, and A350.

The Centre also offers all services to bring Airbus closer to airline customers across the continent, increase customer proximity and help operators maintain a safe, efficient and reliable fleet.

“The new centre emphasizes our confidence in the potential of the region as we expand the presence of Airbus in Africa, invest in regional capabilities, strengthen our customers, promote connectivity and share progress across the continent.”

    Supports African Airlines

Many airlines across the African continent operate Airbus aircraft as part of their commercial fleet. Airbus aircraft, including Ethiopian Airlines (ET), Royal Airmallock (AT), South African Airlines (SA), Air Tanzania (TC), TAAG Angola Airlines (DT), and Uganda Airlines (UR), are located in the fleets in operation.

That said, Airbus has been in Africa since 1976, when the first A300 was delivered to the continent. Currently, nearly 40 airlines operate over 260 Airbus aircraft. Thus, new support facilities in Africa will help foster local talent, promote innovation and promote sustainable growth in the continental aviation sector.

Global Services forecasts show that Airbus expects the need for 14,000 new pilots and 21,000 mechanics and engineers in Africa to support the increased demand for air travel over the next 20 years.
