The US reportedly denied South African envoy to Washington on its visa. This is the latest indication of their increasingly chilly relationship.
The obvious rejection, not immediately confirmed, came as South African industrial bodies warned that they faced a “serious threat” as a result of US tariff threats and cuts in aid. US President Donald Trump has condemned Pretoria's discrimination against white people and the presence of US residents, including Russia and Iran.
Some analysts believe the relationship is beyond repairs. “I don't know how the differences can be resolved,” the expert told the BBC. “South Africa just needs to continue and strengthen its ties with other countries.”
