ITA Airways is forming a codeshare partnership with Air Canada as part of Italian airlines entering the Star Alliance.
Air Canada's chief executive Mark Garaldo said the partnership will allow Air Canada passengers to travel to Rome Fium Sino Airport to “reserve and seamlessly connect to 10 popular destinations in Italy, Africa, Israel and Albania.”
“Similarly, ITA Airways customers arriving in Toronto will benefit from access to 10 major Canadian and US cities on their network,” he says.
Air Canada currently operates approximately 40 flights per week to Italy.
Work is currently underway to introduce ITA to Star Alliance early next year. This will be provided as part of the strategic integration into the Lufthansa group.
ITA CEO Joerg Eberhart said the codeshare with Air Canada supports connectivity to North America, the most important market outside of Italy.
Additionally, it can provide seamless connections to Italian origin passengers living in Canada and the United States, and promote their journey to Italy,” he says.
Link Terminary tickets will be available for travel from July 21st.
Meanwhile, airlines will work towards establishing mutual revenue and redemption programs.
Eberhart said in June that the ITA was investigating a potential revival of the “Alitalia” brand.
