Ethiopian Airlines launches non-stop flights to Hanoi

Addis Ababa – Ethiopian Airlines (ET) officially launched its first non-stop passenger service to Hanoi, Vietnam from July 10, 2025, marking the airline's first route to Vietnam and its 20th destination in Asia.

Flights are scheduled four times a week and are open from Addis Ababa Bore International Airport (Additional) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with return trips from Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport (Han) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Frieders and Sundays. The route is provided using the fuel efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

    Background, strategic expansion

Ethiopian Airlines (ET), the largest airline in Africa and the world's fastest expanding, is steadily growing its international network. With Hanoi now being added to the map, the airline will strengthen its position as a key link between Africa and Southeast Asia, adding to its existing services in major Asian cities such as Beijing (PEK), Tokyo (HND), Singapore (Sin), and Hong Kong (HKG).

This Hanoi route is part of Ethiopia's broader expansion agenda, including recent additions such as Hyderabad (HYD), Porto (OPO) and Sharjah (SHJ), highlighting pan-continental reach in Asia, Europe, Africa and America.

    CEO Statement, Vision

Group CEO Mesfin Tasew expressed his enthusiasm at the launch ceremony held in Hanoi on July 11th.

“We are pleased to expand our presence in Southeast Asia and strengthen air connectivity for our regional customers. This new route will create strong bonds and opportunities for cooperation between Vietnam and our broad global network.

    Connectivity, tourism, trade benefits

This new Addis Ababa-Hanoi flight makes it easier to move people and businesses between two regions. Think more about trade, tourism and culture flowing in both ways. Also:

For Vietnamese people, it opens up many new connections through Addis Ababa, Africa, Europe and even in America.
On the other side, it gives Ethiopian and African travelers a smoother way to the growth markets in Southeast Asia.
As Africa and Southeast Asia gain more connections, it will likely lead to more transactions, more travel, and better connections overall.

At the launch, Vietnamese aviation officials pointed out that the new routes could truly boost tourism, business bonds and cultural exchange, making it much easier for Southeast Asian travelers to explore diverse African destinations.

They were part of the Star Alliance and have been named Africa's Best Airlines by SkyTrax for eight consecutive years.

With the Vision 2035 plan, ET is locked in its place as a key global player, working to build more hubs across Africa and work with international partners to expand its reach.

    Looking ahead

With the Hanoi Route in operation, Ethiopian airlines have revealed they want a stronger footing in one of the fastest growing regions.

This direct link should fully promote tourism, business trips and cultural exchanges between Africa and Southeast Asia.
