ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East (APAC & MID), the leading industry association of over 600 airports, has reiterated the importance of proactively tackling evolving security threats and promoting security-by-security principles, increasing operational efficiency at the interregional seminars on security innovation and cybersecurity held in Casablanca, Morocco.
The two-day seminar was held jointly by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the Arab Civil Aviation Agency (ACAO), and the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), bringing together 80 security experts from state regulators, airports and airlines, primarily from the Middle East and Africa.
Gary Leung, Senior Manager of Security & Facilitation at ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, participated in two panel discussions focusing on airport security operations.
The first panel addressed the challenges faced by the civil aviation industry, particularly airports, in dealing with rapidly evolving threats and risks. Leung highlighted several emerging concerns, including illicit drone invasions, increased use of explosives targeting aviation, and vulnerabilities in Landside Security. He also outlined how ACIs can help airports to mitigate these growing threats.
The second panel examined the concept of design per security, highlighting best practices to ensure that security considerations are integrated from the start of planning and designing new airport infrastructure. Embed security early in the design process can help increase operational effectiveness and efficiency while minimizing the need for costly remodeling in the future.
The seminar served as a valuable platform to discuss critical security and cybersecurity issues and explore collaborative solutions across different regions. As the voice of the airport, ACI continues to work more with local and international associations to help airport members stay at the forefront of aviation security advancements.
