Edinburgh Airport joins the security revolution at the UK airport by centres around the 100ml liquid rule, which is welcomed ahead of the summer holiday season.
Edinburgh Airport is dumping hot liquid restrictions just behind London City Airport. The new high-tech scanner allows passengers to carry more than 100ml of liquid without displaying it individually during security checks. It could reduce cue time as travelers no longer have to unpack lotions or portions. Holiday makers evacuating Edinburgh can say goodbye to the 100ml liquid limit and keep the bottle in their bags. But they still have to keep in mind some remaining regulations.
The airport's official website has quickly updated Holidaygar's clues on improved guidelines. “The liquid can stay in the bag. You no longer need to remove them.” Plus, “You can bring multiple containers with you as long as the container is up to 2 liters.”
“If you carry a metallic or double-walled container (including vacuum flasks, thermos, or metallic water bottles), make sure the container is empty before the security checkpoint. You can refill the bottle after security.

The UK globetrotter has a reason to be hilarious as high-tech scanners are installed at UK airports, Miller reports. It is expected to be completed first by June 2025, but the Ministry of Transport has now postponed the deadline indefinitely due to supply chain hurdles. This set-off means that large airports like Heathrow and Gatwick were unable to meet their initial targets, but were able to implement some scanners in part of the terminal.
This change can cause a hassle for travelers as the familiar 100ml limit of liquids is not evenly enforced across all UK airports. For example, if the 100ml rule remains, we'll take Gatwick, but passengers can keep containers packed. Holiday makers traveling this summer will need to scrutinise the guidelines of their chosen airports to inconveniently swallow drinks and throw toiletries for careless violations of rules.
And don't forget to check the regulations for your holiday spots when you're back home. Major European destinations like Spain, France and Portugal still implement liquid limits of 100ml and require these items to be presented individually during security checks.
